TuneUp Utilities 2009 Review

Introduction :

TuneUp Utilities from TuneUp Software GmbH is an easy-to-use System Utilitiy Suite. It helps you to streamline your PC performance, troubleshoot complex pc errors , custom tune your PC. It does things perfectly and unlike other registry cleaners it won’t messup your PC after registry cleaning.So you are in safe hands if you use Tune Up Utilities 2009.

Interface:

StartPage:

After installing the program, you will be presented with the start page. As the name suggests it gives you overall outlook of your computer divided into three categories.It gives One-click overview of your PC performance

1. Maintenance
2. Speed
3. Health

It also provides you solution for fixing up the problems/speeding up your pc.

Increase Performance :

This tab consists of utilities such as Defragmenter, Registry Defrag, Speed Optimizer, Startup Manager. These tools perform flawlessly.

The Defragmenter and Registry Defrag helps to organize the data and thereby increasing your hard disk lifetime.

The Startup Manager is an effective toll to control the start up programs. It also includes a Startup Guide which notifies newly assigned programs to startup.

The Speed Optimizer suggests some minor tweaks based on your profile.

Freeup Disk space :

This part consists of tools that helps you to save harddisk space by removing unnecessary files.It also removes Windows hotfix backups so remember if something goes wrong (remember Microsoft ) you cannot uninstall the hotfix.

Note: When using this tool your system restore points also gets deleted. So make sure to create a restore point after running this tool.

It also includes a Disk space Explorer which is similar to Explorer.

Clean Up Windows:

This is part includes very important utilities like registry cleaner, shortcut cleaner ,uninstall manager, one click maintenance

The Registry cleaner allows you to pickup specific areas to clean and also saves a backup before modifying it so you can easily restore a harmful deletion.My recommended alternative freeware is CCleaner

The Shortcut cleaner basically removes missing shortcuts.

The One Click Maintenance performs scheduled optimization of  your PC. It can correct registry problems,optimize harddisk, etc.

The Uninstall Manager is just an alternative to add/remove programs but it includes an useful remove program entry option.

Solve Problems:

These tools include Disk Doctor (Windows Disk Check), Repair Wizard and Undelete.

Among these TupeUp Undelete allows you to restore accidentally deleted files. This is possible because the file you are deleting remains in the harddisk unless it is overwritten by some other information. So if the file gets overwritten be some other information then the chance of recovery is low.

Customize Windows :

This one is my favorite it includes hundreds of windows customization option under one roof. Tuneup utilities also includes some additional themes and styles but mostly they are outdated ones.

Additional Tools:

These are common windows tools represented graphically in another name. But TuneUp Shredder is an exception.It allows you to delete sensitive information.TuneUp Shredder makes sure that no data thief can set hands on your sensitive information.

The tool deletes files permanently, with no chance of recovery. And if you wish, you can even use a procedure that was developed by the United States Department of Defense (Regulation DoD 5220.22-M). The files are overwritten with special data patterns multiple times before deletion, thereby destroying the original contents so effectively that even expensive examinations of the magnetic structure of the disk in a special laboratory cannot recover the data.

Rescue Center:

This is similar to Windows Restore it creates a backup whenever a modification is carried out and allows to recover your system if something goes wrong.

Update Wizard:

This allows you to update your program. These updates are released occasionally.

Conclusion :

For $50 it is worth to buy it and if you have an older version you can upgrade for  $30. The program does what it has promised but lacks some support and recovery tools.
